This is a new and revised edition of Shepherd Ogden's Step-by-Step Organic Vegetable Gardening (Harper, 1992), a book that introduced thousands of gardeners to the benefits and techniques of organic processes. Although the author is by any definition a Master Grower, this is a book intended for the amateur enthusiast who is poised to make the leap to organics.

Nature is to be accommodated, not dominated, and in food production, big does not equal good. This revision takes into account the new materials, theories, and techniques that have made organic gardening such a rapidly evolving, and increasingly popular, pursuit. It's easy to conceive that sometime in the 21st century another generation of Ogdens might be ready to spread the gospel of organic gardening once again.
